We had three fully resourced construction teams busy at anyone time during the construction.
While this contract proved challenging, all testing needed below the contract specifications was successfully completed with all tests passed. Our 2IC’s are the right hand person of the Team Leader on site and bear a smooth of guidance and encourage to staff members on a day to day basis while getting stuck in and working with them on the ground. Access to these properties was very limited, with some properties having steep steps and some having no access at all. The 250 meres of 150mm sewer main pipe was burst in 3 sections, the new pipe was assisted around the changes of direction and grade, and a changing pipe was laid beside the existing main to maintain flows during the construction of the fresh main. Access was difficult and all work was within private property on steep sites.
This was a firm project requiring adept planning and firm work and was completed to a lofty standard. We successfully managed these risks by good communication with DOC CDC and succeeding our approved Environmental Management plan. Further training included manhole construction, pipe laying, manual excavation, site set out, location of services and gas detection.
Many skills were old including Site work, pipework and polite construction work, changing access, silt protection, active within streams, manual labor, liaison with residents, landscaping, concern of structures and property, confined space entry, building, concreting, locating of services, trench back filling and all associated labor to entire the contract works. There was continuous on the job training for all staff members, with some staff working towards their Civil Infrastructure Introductory Skills. The replacement of approximately 600 meres of the existing sewer main within private property and the carriageway of Happy Valley Road and Owhiro Bay Road, including all new manholes and associated works. The below section was completed by Team One and a team of six others and the upper section by Team Two and a team of five others
