We are constantly striving to invest in our facilities and expand our services and capabilities to attract further business locally and nationally. We are a family owned and operated business with an established workforce of more than 35 people divided between seven departments Sheet Metal, Machining, Fabrication, Fitting Assembly, Design, Electrical and Steel Processing. Our specific skills focus on welding, fabrication, sheet metal work, electrical design and installation, machining both CNC and conventional , CAD CAM and mechanical design. Duncan McLennan, Managing Director Duncan is the son of one of the two company founders and has worked here for more than 45 years.
James McLennan, Workshop Manager James is in overall charge of the workshop and has worked here for seven years. Gavin Bingham, Fabrication Foreman Running close behind Duncan in terms of years of service at 37, Gavin oversees the fabrication and machining workshops. Mike Anstiss, Assembly Foreman Mike oversees the assembly and sheet metal workshops and has worked here for 19 years. We plan each project individually according to the required resources so that all of our clients receive a tailor made service that delivers the solutions they need.
For larger jobs, we break each element down according to the required processes which are then assigned to the shop foreman to plan and produce. Having started as a general engineering and maintenance business in 1945, we are still a family owned and operated business with big ideas and big ambitions. We are constantly striving to invest in our facilities and expand our services and capabilities to attract further business locally and nationally. We operate one of the largest and most comprehensively equipped engineering shops in the Wellington region, boasting 300sqm of factory space in addition to 750sqm of office warehouse space . 2 million NZD investment in a CNC lathe and CNC machining centre, in addition to our other in house facilities such as a HD plasma, TIG, MIG, ARC welding and press braking to 300 ton. Having started as a general engineering and maintenance business in 1945, we are still a family owned and operated business with big ideas and big ambitions.

Wellington based J D McLennan Ltd was established in 1945 after brothers James and Duncan McLennan returned from serving in the armed forces during World War II. The company started life as a general engineering and maintenance business servicing the local community and operating out of old horse stables in Petone. Our product lines over the years have included the design and manufacture of an asphalt manufacturing plan a quarry plant conveyors rock crushers rollers Toyota vehicle well side trays machinery for the manufacture and handling of cement tyres a fairground Ferris wheel. Recent history has seen a focus on the design of aviation ground support equipment in our capacity as the manufacturing arm of Airport Equipment Ltd which has installations in every major airport in the South Pacific and beyond.
Since 1974, we have manufactured and installed more than 250 aircraft passenger boarding bridges for AEL with all electrical design and construction and fabrication and assembly carried out in house. We have steadily expanded in size and service lines to be one of the largest and most complete engineering shops in the Wellington area
