We recognise that the world faces a growing water challenge and that responsible management of the world’s resources by all water users is an absolute necessity. For our business to be sustainable over the longer term, we believe our actions must be good for business and good for society. Given the nature of our business and our ambition to be the world's leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, we have identified three areas where Nestl can optimise the Creation of Shared Value nutrition, water and rural development.
In line with the concept of Creating Shared Value, the Nestl Good Life Program allows Nestl and its employees to contribute to its surrounding communities. The Nestl Good Life Program is a group of community initiatives covering a wide diversity of activity and interest in the areas of sport, health, nutrition, education, food and promoting active lifestyles. We are also focused on improving the environmental sustainability within the communities we operate in with the Nestl Community Environment Program. 73 million to community programs and broader sponsorship initiatives.
The company operates 449 factories and employs 278,00 employees around the world. Nestl New Zealand employs over 650 people and we market over 900 products to New Zealanders and achieve exports of over 60 million primarily to Australia Japan. Each year through our Creating Shared Value philosophy, we make a significant contribution to encourage the wellbeing of New Zealand Communities. There are other Nestl operations in the region which form part of the worldwide Nestl Group but which operate quite independently from the retail food and beverage business.
The Nestl Group also has an interest of more than 26 in the world’s leading cosmetics company, L’Oreal. For over a century, Nestl ’s commitment to research into food and nutrition has benefited consumers by using science to develop safer, healthier and better tasting products. Nestl ’s research, development and technology network, together with local market application groups, employs over 5,00 people. 1914 Heards Ltd is first established as a small confectionery shop in Henley Street, Parnell, Auckland.
1985 Carnation business purchased milk products, culinary products, entry of the Group into the pet food business under the brand FRISKIES . 1985 Nestl acquires Carnation, which includes FRISKIES GO CAT 1986 Heards confectionery business in New Zealand purchased included Waiuku factory which was closed in 2003. We believe that to enhance and protect our business we must go beyond compliance and sustainability and create new and greater value for our people, our shareholders and society as a whole
Rapid development followed and Nestl soon diversified into other areas with the introduction of a condensed milk product, followed by a move into the growing chocolate industry. Whilst Nestl is well known for its confectionery business, this represents only a small part of today’s product portfolio. 1890 Underwood Milk Condensory in Invercargill New Zealand is built, closed in 1965.
1914 Heards Ltd is first established as a small confectionery shop in Henley Street, Parnell, Auckland. 1920 Nestl and Anglo Swiss Condensed Milk Company Australasia Ltd sell imported chocolate, baby food and milks in New Zealand. This marked the Group’s entry into the chocolate and confectionery business in Europe. 1929 Nestl 's sales office open in Lichfield Street, Christchurch and Lower High Street, Dunedin.
